Healthy Balance: Part One

Dear friends,

Welcome to the New Year. 2019 can be and will be whatever you make of it.

One of my goals for this year is to return to my healthy balanced diet. Before I entered my phase of indulgence, my diet was quite particular and I reaped all the benefits. I have put myself on this diet again and will keep track of my progress.

The Diet

When most people hear “diet” they think of some quick weight loss regimen. The word diet also means “food and drink regularly provided or consumed; habitual nourishment (Merriam-Webster)”. So here we will use the word diet as our everyday habitual consumption. Below I have listed the foods I consume on a daily basis.

  • Dairy-free products
  • Vegetables
  • Fruit
  • Beans
  • Nuts
  • Smoothies
  • A source of meat one meal a week.

Eliminating animal based foods will help you not only lose weight, but also increase your overall health. It is difficult for me to eliminate it completely so I allow myself one cheat meal a week where i’m allowed to eat meat and cheese. Being on this diet I was able to lower my blood pressure, decrease my A1C1 (diabetes is heredity in my family), lower my cholesterol, reduce acne breakouts, and gain toner thighs and butt. I also had more energy replacing the sluggishness I felt each day. This diet causes your digestive system to move pretty quickly so you may feel a constant hunger throughout the day. I usually snack on nuts, fruit, and veggies in between meals.

Fasting

Along with this diet there is fasting. Fasting helps your body repair itself and allows your food from the day to be completely digested. I eat between 12pm and 8pm. This leaves me 16 hours of fasting. If my appetite returns after 8pm, I drink a glass of water and/or a cup of apple sauce. It’s best to complete the total fasting period during your hours of rest. This way you get the full effect.

Starting point

I began my diet on January 1 weighing 164 pounds. Today, January 4, I am 162 pounds. You will not see much weight loss the first couple weeks as your body gets used to this new diet. After week two you should see a significant change in your weight. Last year I began this diet at 178 pounds. Within 2 months I was down to 150 pounds. My goal this year is to stay consistent so that I maintain a healthy weight and an overall healthy body. I will continue to update you all on my progress.

I hope you will join me and experience the benefits of this regimen. If you are thinking of starting this diet and fast, please be sure to consult your physician first!

With Love,

Sade
